THE MYSTIC AZORES

azores nature explore

A DESTINATION BEYOND WORDS...

Three islands of charm and character flourish in the heart of the Atlantic. Faial, the island of hydrangeas spreads around a spectacular crater; and the charming city of Horta, a stopover for great sailors, radiates a cosmopolitan atmosphere. São Jorge, the island-mountain, wild with its secret villages, stretches like a ship. The island of Pico stands its silhouette of majestic volcano under fumaroles. On its flanks, large lava flows covered with endemic forests and vast pastures, run down to the coast.

FAIA BRAVA RESERVE WALKING TOUR

O CAMIÑO DOS FAROS

UNIQUE AND SPECIAL INTEREST GUIDED WALKING TOUR

IMG_4962.JPG

Faia Brava Reserve was classified in 2010  as Private Protected Area, the first one in Portugal and part of  the European project Rewilding Europe. This reserve, with 850 ha, promotes actions in the domains of ecological restoration through improvement of habitats, increasing the availability of food for the most endangered species and forest management. The deep granitic cliffs which characterize the territory where it is located are the origin of the name of the reserve - "faia" means cliff - which are quiet and safe nesting places for large birds that inhabit rocky environments. The Griffon Vulture, the Egyptian Vulture, the Bonneli's Eagle and the Golden Eagle are included in the nesting species that make the Faia Brava a place of high interest for the preservation of Nature.

ASTURIAN MAGIC MOUNTAINS | SPAIN

The Brown Bear is a rare and endangered species in Spain today. The western Cantabrian Mountains and foothills are home to the best brown bear population in Spain, that survive to poaching in the 70s and 80s. Today it is recovering by approaching the 250 specimens in the western sector of the Cantabrian Mountains. Join us on this unforgettable journey. Follow the bear footsteps at distance and try to observe them in these Asturian mountains, always watching over their conservation and the tranquility of the ecosystems they inhabit, without interfering in the tranquility that the bear needs in its natural habitat.
