BIRDING IN THE CENTER OF PORTUGAL

O CAMIÑO DOS FAROS

HERITAGE AND NATURE

Starting at the coast line of the Aveiro region, this amazing birdwatching tour through the Center of Portugal will provide the chance to watch a great diversity of bird species. Large number of herons and shorebirds, like Little Egret, Great Egret, Purple Heron and Black-Winged Stilt, will be seen on the Ria de Aveiro wetlands. But the highlights go to the beautiful groups of flamingos. The tour also covers the less known interior of Portugal, close to the borderline. The deep valleys of the Côa, Águeda and Douro rivers, offer an important nesting area for some Mediterranean birds.  The most emblematic are the raptors, standing out the Bonelli’s Eagle, the Iberian Imperial Eagle and the Short-toed Eagle. This is also the homeland of vultures. And three species can be seen, the Egyptian, the Griffon and the Black vultures. The threatened Black Stork, the Azure-winged Magpie, the Spotless Starling, the Spanish Sparrow, the Woodchat Shrike, the Bee Eater and the Orphean Warbler are other highlights of this territory. Among many others.

Through 6 days of activity you will get to see about 150 species of birds.
